Bob Ryan Biography:-
Bob Ryan is a retired meteorologist who most recently worked for WJLA, the ABC station in Washington, D.C., where he made weather predictions. Before being the chief meteorologist at NBC affiliate WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., from 1980 to 2010, he was the first on-air meteorologist for the Today Show. This was also the first job for a meteorologist on a network television show. When Willard Scott took over for Ryan on Today, Ryan took over Scott’s job as a meteorologist on WRC. This meant that Ryan and Scott basically switched jobs.
On February 5, 2010, the Washington Post reported that he was talking with rival station WJLA and that he could switch stations because his contract had ended. As NBC continued to cut jobs in the newsroom, Ryan’s workload grew. He had to do the forecasts at 4, 5, 6, and 11 o’clock, which made him think about switching stations. Together with Doug Hill, who is the head meteorologist at WJLA and has been Ryan’s friend for a long time, he could make a weather team that could beat WRC in the ratings. After making his last forecast after the Olympics, he left the station for good early on February 26, 2010.
In May 2010, it was said that Ryan was going to work at WJLA. On May 17, 2010, Ryan made his first appearance on WJLA at 5 p.m. Ryan was the meteorologist for the 11 p.m. news show.
Ryan went to the University at Albany and got a B.S. in physics and an M.S. in atmospheric science. He worked at Arthur D. Little Inc. as a researcher on the weather. After that, he worked as a meteorologist at WPRI-TV in Providence and WCVB-TV in Boston before going to work for The Today Show and then WRC.
Ryan was the first and only president of the American Meteorological Society who worked in broadcast weather. He wrote and published the Weatherwise Almanac for 25 years. This was an annual meteorology almanac that told about things like the moon’s phases, meteor showers, the solstices, and the equinoxes. It also had historical information, like the average high and low temperatures for each day of the year and important weather events that happened on that date in history.
After 33 years of predicting the weather on TV for WJLA, Ryan left the station on May 22, 2013.
