About Joanne Weir
Weir grew up in New England but later moved to San Francisco, California.
Coming from a family of successful chefs, Joanne knew from a young age she wanted to build a career in cooking.
Her great-grandmother was the owner of a restaurant called the Pilgrim’s Pantry in Boston, Massachusetts. Her grandfather was also passionate about cooking and her mother worked as a caterer and professional chef alongside author and legendary cook, Charlotte Turgeon.
Both of Weir’s grandparents were also farmers in addition to being chefs.
In 2009, Joanne married a lawyer named Joe Ehrlich. Although she doesn’t have any biological children, Joanne is the stepmother of Joe’s 3 daughters who are all adults
Weir graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and majored in Photography.
She briefly taught Fine Arts before moving on to study her first true love, cooking.
She also has a Master Chef Diploma in France and graduated with honors.
Among many other things, Joanne is a dedicated chef, writer and teacher who is passionate about her craft.
She absolutely loves teaching & has taught all over the world from Asia and South America to Australia, Europe and New Zealand as well North America where she is permanently based.
Weir also co-owns a restaurant called
Copita with partner , Larry Mindel.
In addition to all of this, Joanne is a renowned food author and has written several award-winning cookbooks that include “From Tapas to Meze”, “You Say Tomato”, “Wine Country Cooking”, “Kitchen Gypsy: Recipes and Stories from a Lifelong Romance with Food” and
“Weir’s More Cooking in the Wine Country” .
Joanne also contributes to a number of national publications that include Food & Wine, Cooking Light, Fine Cooking, AARP The Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset Magazine and Bon Appetit.
Joanne has hosted several cooking shows that include the award winning ‘Joanne Weir’s Cooking Class’ as well ‘Joanne Weir Gets Fresh’.
She has also hosted two PBS shows called, “Weir Cooking in the City” and
“Weir Cooking in the Wine Country” as well her current show, ‘Joanne Weir’s Plates and Places’ which debuted in February of 2018.
Besides her own shows, Joanne has appeared as a guest on a variety of TV shows such as Good Morning America, Fox and The Today Show.
