About Byron Coll:-
Byron Coll is one of the support cast for Viva La Dirt League. He has made 11 appearances, mainly in Bored and Epic NPC Man.
He is an actor, composer and photographer, known for Top of the Lake (a mystery drama set in New Zealand and Australia). Similar to Rowan and Ben, he has also appeared in Power Rangers.
Byron has firmly established himself as an actor of both screen and stage, since graduating from Toi Whakkaari in 2007. His screen credits include the critically acclaimed Top of the Lake, Jack and the Giant Slayer, Tangiwai, Field Punishment and Terry Teo.
On stage he has worked with Auckland Theatre Company, Silo Theatre and performed in New Zealand Opera productions. Since 2012 he has played the role of Tim in Mastercard’s award winning All Black commercials and his voice can be recognized as a possum from the comedic Toyota commercials.
Byron Coll is a professional character actor working consistently in film, television and theatre since graduating from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School in 2007. His work includes roles in Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake – his character ‘Penguin’ was written for him by Jane Campion after seeing his character work as a penguin from the award-winning play Heat by Linda Chanwai-Earle. Other credits include Warp Films multi award-winning feature Shopping by Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston, which featured at such festivals as Sundance Film Festival and Berlinale Film Festival, Jack the Giant Slayer directed by Bryan Singer, Lippy Pictures’ television drama Tangiwai, Jean and Field Punishment No.1, Screentime’s Bombshell and Gaylene Preston’s Home by Christmas featuring Martin Henderson. His solo work in DIVE a short film by Matthew Saville created prestigious accolades in New Zealand which has now become an Oscar® accredited film for 2016.
Byron may be most recognisable as Tim, the over-enthusiastic All Blacks supporter in the award- winning Mastercard commercials featuring Richie McCaw, Ma’a Nonu, Dan Carter and Ali Williams. His character has become a New Zealand icon which is loved and recognised by many throughout New Zealand.
His theatre work in Apollo 13: Mission Control and The Little Shop of Horrors has taken him through prestigious USA, UK, Australia and Ireland touring circuits. He was most recently awarded Actor of the Year at the Chapman Tripp Wellington Theatre awards for his work in Midsummer by David Greig. He is also very well known through the Auckland Theatre Scene performing many shows with The Auckland Theatre Company and has recently lead the New Zealand Opera with their production of The Mikado with critical acclaim.
As well as a professional actor, Byron is also an accomplished musician and composer, having written scores for the Auckland Annual Theatre Awards, performed music in Live Live Cinema’s Little Shop Of Horrors, and produced musical stings in the corporate sector for Versatile Garage and Buildings and MiTek NZ.
