She went to Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and filled in as an entertainer with writer David Mamet’s performance center organization. Getting back to music, she shaped a band with Adam Schlesinger, the head of Ivy, saying of the gathering’s sound, “It was kind of Manchester-pop stuff. Yet, sooner or later I began getting into Bob Dylan and things like that, and my course sort of changed.”
