Katie’s love of sports began when she was very young. She started playing hockey when she and a friend joined a local club. She quickly fell in love with the sport and went on to play for England at many different age levels.
“It took over my whole life, and I loved every minute of it,” she said.
“Along the way, I made a lot of friends. I trained 25 hours a week and went all over the world with England Hockey, which was amazing. Sport has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. My family loves football and rugby. I was always in the back yard with my brother playing cricket, and whenever I could play sports at school or university, I did,” she said.
Since hockey was a big deal at both of her schools and at Loughborough University, where she later went to school, it made sense for her to keep playing. At one point, she played for up to five teams a week, including her local teams, county, regional, and national teams. When she went to UNC in North Carolina on a hockey scholarship, she also had a great time and learned a lot. Followed by playing for the Rockingham Redbacks in Western Australia, where she found a way to travel the world, playing the sport she loved.
However, after suffering a head injury from a ball resulting in plastic surgery, concussion, and spinal repair, she decided to give up her playing career.
